Fun Food Fact
Honey Crisp Apples
We have lots of apples coming for fall and wanted to share a bit about each variety as they come in season. This week we have Honeycrisp which has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Primarily due to its explosive crisp texture and well-balanced sweet/tart flavor, it is said to be the "fun to eat apple". A relatively new patented variety, Honeycrisp Apples have a texture similar to a crisp watermelon or Asian Pear. The fruit size is large and predominantly red over a yellow background. Enjoy!

A word from the Farmer~
The summer is simply flying by! It is hard to believe that the school buses will start rolling in Clarke County this week with Loudoun, Fairfax, Alexandria and Arlington right on their heels. Be sure to bring the kids out for one more weekday jump on the pillow before they are back at their desks!
We are planting the last lettuces and greens for the end of the delivery season this week. Then the cover crops for over the winter will follow. The small hoop greenhouse has been closed for the this season and will wait quietly until begin planting again in March.
Enjoy these last few days of summer and we will look forward to seeing you at the farm!
Bounty and Blessings,
The Zurschmeide Family

Simply a great read even if you don't want to make the jelly. Thank you, Mel, and keep on cookin'!

The Big Dig Potato Harvest~ September 3 & 4
Be sure to save the date! This is one of our most popular weekends to kick off the harvest season. Rev up your morning with a pancake breakfast hot off the griddle and then hop on the hayride out to the potato patch. There is nothing like a freshly dug potato! Most potatoes in stores are from the previous year's harvest and fresh ones are moist and creamy textured. Be sure to bring a shovel or hand trowel to do your digging. The kids will love the "treasure hunt" for the spuds hidden under the ground.
Admission is included with CSA and Fan membership
Guest Admission: $10/child & $12/adult
Big Dig Activities:
9am-12pm Pancake Breakfast with Orange Drink and Coffee
9:15-5pm Hayrides out to the potato patch.
