A word from the Farmer~
We are so thrilled to be part of the Farm-to-Fork Loudoun program, a collaborative effort between the agriculture, culinary and winery communities of Loudoun County, VA. From July 21-31, 2011, over 20 culinary sites & restaurants will offer special menus, using the best from local farms, wineries & spirit distillers. Be sure to check out the website and make reservations today to be part of this innaugural event! ![]()
We just built a new compost pad by the small greenhouse to go into larger production for the plant starts next spring. If you don't have space or time to compost at home, feel free to add your vegetable trimmings and non-meat or dairy left overs to the compost stack. We will be glad to turn your corn cobs, watermelon rinds and corn husks into "black gold" for next season! Just bring them with you to the farm and drop in the can by the hayride loop!
The "Irrigation Station" is open and ready to cool you off after some picking and playing these hot summer days. It is located next to the putt-putt course and will mist you with a squeeze of the hose handle! It draws water from our well and is like a huge overhead sprinkler. We hope you will enjoy this addition designed to keep you cool as a cucumber!![]()
Bounty and Blessings,

Recipe of the Week:
Fried Corn
Ingredients
- 6 ears corn, husked and cleaned (great for left over corn on the cob)
- 6 slices bacon (for a vegetarian version simply saute in olive oil)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 large red bell pepper, chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Slice corn off of cob and scrape cob to release the milk. Set aside.
- Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Crumble and set aside.
- Retain 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the pan and saute the onion until translucent. Add the pepper and corn and cook until tender. Stir in the crumbled bacon and cook 1 minute more.
