Strawberry

deb in fieldOur spring farm field trips feature strawberries and how they and other plants are grown on the farm. Strawberries send off runners each season which bear the fruit the following season.  During the strawberry lifecyle presentation, your class will learn all about strawberries, and how they are different from produce grown from seeds. We can help reinforce VA SOLs as your class learns about vascular & non-vascular plants, seeds, water cycles and solar energy in our greenhouse.  We tailor the presentation to the age of the students while they plant seeds to take home to grow.

The hayride tour of the farm features visits to see our spring plantings, and to the strawberry fields for more education on how we grow our strawberries.  We do not have students actually pick their own strawberries due to the short growing season, timing and capacity, but have a pre-packed ½ pint of strawberries for each participant to take home to enjoy.  As time permits, students can burn up any energy left in our farm play area.

The strawberry field trip is $8/student and $8/parent and includes:

  • Hayride tour of our spring plantings and strawberry fields
  • Strawberry lifecycle presentation
  • Greenhouse tour & sunflower planting kit
  • Farm animal feeding and education
  • Check out the “peep show” in our incubator barn and see all the stages of peep growth
  • 1/2 pint of pre-picked strawberries to take home
  • Gross motor work-out in our farm play area

You can also combine this tour with our GEM TOUR for only $12/person and $12/parent.
